Austrians want renewable energies

The acceptance of renewable energy technologies in Austria is higher than ever before. 

With the representative Study "Renewable Energies in Austria" The Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, Deloitte Austria and Wien Energie have been examining the attitudes of Austrians to the topic every year since 2015.

According to this year's results, the Photovoltaic with 88% to the most acceptance in the population. Small hydro follows with 74% second that Wind power just behind with 72%. In electromobility, the positive trend of recent years is continuing. The proportion of those surveyed who want to switch to electric drive the next time they buy a car is 18% this year and has increased slightly. Overall, the group of potential electric car buyers steady and currently making 54% out, according to the results of the study.

"People's approval is there, now it's up to the decision-makers. Politicians must ensure the rapid implementation of the planned Renewable Energy Expansion Act so that industry can follow suit with appropriate investments. Otherwise there is a risk that the enthusiasm will be followed by disillusionment. Then the momentum for the energy transition will be lost,” says Deloitte Partner Gerhard Marterbauer.
